Martian Alchemist

This past week I’ve been mostly working on my new game: Martian Alchemist. It’s a potion making and resource management simulator that takes place in a fictional future on Mars! Imagine Firefly (the TV show) + a little bit of Star Wars + witches. I’ve been inspired by the game Potion Craft (highly recommend if you like cozy, relaxing, potion making games) and I wanted to make a sci-fi version of it! Here’s a mock-up of the main title that I’ve been working on this past week or so:

Although I haven’t written a line of code for the new game yet, I’ve been working on the broader design and trying to plan as much of it out as I can. I’m terrified of running into the classic “I didn’t write my code right the first time and so now it’s not reusable therefore I have to rewrite my code or scrap this idea”. I know that I’ll eventually have some of those but I’m trying to avoid that as much as possible. And I also know that I need to eventually just crack open Godot and get going.

Speaking of Godot, I’ve decided to use Godot rather than Unity for this game because I don’t anticipate using all of the features that Unity has. When I wrote Space Cats, I hardly touched Unity’s full potential. I know that’s not a bad thing, but since Godot is heavily marketed toward indie and 2D devs, I figured I'd give it a go. And now that they have full C# support, I really don’t see why I shouldn’t be using it. Also, it’s not even like I have 10+ years of Unity dev work under my belt. Since I’m such a noob, no harm, no foul. Right?

Oh and by the way, Space Cats: Rocket Dodge is now available on iOS! I got accepted into the App Store so go a head and try it out (it’s free)! IMO, it’s better on mobile 😊

You can download it here.
